merman

you were a mythical creature
something from the sea
but i saw you on land
stranded,
alone.
i picked you up by the fin-straps
and carried you home
put you in my bathtub
'cause you like water
and probably would've died if i hadn't.
you'd mumble things about
"going back to the ocean"
and "i really don't think tap water's good for me"
and "please, dear god, stop holding me hostage!"
but i'd stroke your little head
and hit you with a meat cleaver
and you'd fall into comforted silence in my arms,
bleeding just a little.
i'd caress you for a while,
then leave you to your peaceful rest,
locking the bathroom door behind me.
...not that you could get out anyway.

Love. I feel absolute love for this piece. The imagery, the underlying metaphor...It's all quite spectacular.
