After the Quik Trip

Dull gray ache
stretches past horizon

Emptiness follows
carefully stepping where I have stepped
making no footprints of its own

The cold inside me
forms icicles in my ribcage
but my lungs resist the permafrost

Ice cream bars
are not very sturdy

the sidewalk laps up
my clumsiness
